Week 23- We're almost there.

January 28, 2019

The Christmas break ended about a week and a half ago, with tradesmen on site from about the 16th of January.

We were pretty thrilled about this because we had decided to be incredibly pessimistic and expect no work to be completed on the house until the end of January.

Heading in to the New Year, we still had a relatively long list of work to be completed on the house. Basically, it was like a shell of a house with nothing that could be stolen in the 3 weeks it lay dormant. Turns out it was a great call by our Site Supervisor because apparently other houses in the area had “issues”.

Fast forward two weeks and all of a sudden we have a house that is really starting to look like a near-completed house (cue a chorus of people singing Hallelujah).

We have had the front of the house partially rendered in Surfmist and loving it-

We have had all the fixtures such as taps, sinks, bath and shower plumbed in (sorry this is the only photo I have from a window)-

The floorboards have been installed-

We have also had the electrical fit-off completed (down lights etc.) and the door handles installed.

What are we loving?

  • Our front render colour. I was very nervous about this because we have gone for a dark roof (Colorbond Monument) so using a bright, near white render made me wonder whether it would stand out as some mid-1990’s design faux-pas or whether it would be a 2019 success story. I have never thought our house had a wonderful facade, in fact, I think it’s pretty boring, but I’m very pleased to say I like it.

  • The floorboards. Even from peering in through the windows, I absolutely love the colour of the flooring. They have quite a large colour variation which picks up the tone of the darker over-head cabinetry well. I have wondered for 16 months now what the flooring would look like as we had to pick our colour off samples the size of a small dinner plate.

What’s up next?

  • Driveway will hopefully be started this week- I have no clue how long it takes to create a driveway but I am definitely very curious to see how our aggregate stone driveway turns out.

  • Carpet will hopefully be installed in to our rumpus room and bedrooms this week (and that will mean the flooring has been completed).

  • Blinds and our external fan should go in soon after.

  • We have also started calling people to arrange quotes for the fencing around our block.

We have a walk through with our site supervisor early (very very early) before work on Tuesday so stay tuned for more photos and updates- exciting times!
